Volunteer Workers Schedule and Itinerary in Uganda

This year Experience Africa-Discover its Pearl-the People of Uganda

Coming up with an Itinerary for your Volunteer Work Team or just for you in Uganda

Each team or each individual or a couple of people differ in their abilities, time constraints and desires.  We will put together an itinerary that fits you and your budget and wishes.  It is our desire that you and your team find your time in Uganda enriching and memorable.  We have found that it is best to combine the hard work with some leisure kind of activities that acquaint you with every facet of Uganda, we attempt to incorporate the actual work project, some cultural and historic sites, and activities such as a memorable Nile River Rafting Experience and a wildlife safari into the wilderness of Uganda,  this we have found to be the best and most satisfying combination for the volunteers that come here to Uganda.

Here is the normal kind of schedule for a team and for individuals Based on 12 to 14 day Stay in Uganda.

  • Day 1:  Arrival at Entebbe airport and we meet you with the appropriate vehicle for you and or your team.  This can range from a simple car for one or two, a van for more, or a bus for up to 29 passengers.  We load your luggage and bring you to one of our guesthouses located in Kampala, preferably near to the location where your project will take place.  Depending on your time of arrival (some planes arrive at night) we will have dinner and an orientation at where you will be handed a team packet which includes pertinent information regarding your time in Uganda, including a Luganda Phrase Book, it includes a time of questions and answers and more.

  • Day 2 through Day 7 or Day 10:  Breakfast Time and then off to the Work Project with a packed lunch.  Return in the early evening hours for dinner and relaxing evenings with activities as scheduled by group-leader such as team meetings and get together.

  • Day 8 or Day 11:  We go off on a safari to show you the rest of Uganda, this can be budget accommodations or better.  It can be Murchison Falls Park or Queen Elizabeth since they provide the greatest diversity for you to see while there.

  • Day of return from Safari:  A celebration dinner with Ugandan co-workers and a time of goodbye.

  • Last Day:  Depending on Departure Time:  Shopping in town, lunch and a departure for airport

Sample of a Short-Term Uganda Volunteer Work Team Itinerary

12 life changing days (sample-actual depending on your abilities and wishes)

  • Day 1:  Arrive in Uganda via your airline of choice (arrangements for low cost tickets can be made).  Pickup at airport by myself and other staff as needed.  Journey from Entebbe to Kampala to team facility where you will be staying (stay includes lodging, food, laundry and daily transport to site where you will volunteer).  Depending on morning or evening arrival you will have an Ugandan orientation as to country, culture, suggestions and worksite with question and answer time.

  • Day 2:  Breakfast and transport to site such as school, medical facility or building project depending on what team or individual chooses. You will be working side by side with Ugandans and get a chance to be in touch with the reality of life in Uganda.  Many projects involve working with children which is quite rewarding.  Lunch at site and return at 5 pm to team facility for dinner and leisure time.

  • Day 3:  Breakfast and transport to your worksite with lunch there interacting and working with Ugandans.  Most volunteers find there work quite enriching and return year after year, some even staying for longer periods of time.

  • Day 4:  Should any of the days fall on Sunday a different schedule will be put into place such as breakfast and a visit to the Bugolobi Church for Children spending time with children from slums attending church.  You will assist in the feeding program and interact with various children of ages from 3 to 16.  This usually turns out to be a fabulous day for most volunteers.  Afterwards a visit to Primary School where a group of children will present their skills in traditional dance, traditional instruments and songs, a simple delight.  Lunch at Garden City Mall where you can choose from a large assortment of restaurants and do some shopping for things you might need.
