Visiting your Sponsored Child in Uganda Come to Uganda and meet the child you would like to Sponsor Sponsorship Visits in Uganda - The journey of a lifetime. Uganda is a country of 30 million people, the youngest country in the world. Wherever you turn there are children and more children. Well over half of the population of the country is younger than 14 years of age. Thousands of children are orphaned due to things such as Africa's number one killer-Malaria, then there is Aids, complications in childbirth and simply a short life expectancy. Uganda's life expectancy ranges from 29 years old to 56, depending on where in the country you live. Child sponsorships can make the difference between life and death, between poverty and a life with meaning. Most sponsored children never see their sponsors, at times they might receive a letter from them or write one to them. There is nothing however like the meeting between a child and its sponsor. Many years ago, I drove a sponsor to the Sudanese border in Kenya to meet the child she was sponsoring. We reached the little village late at night and had something to eat in the only restaurant in town when the boy arrived. For a moment the meeting seemed awkward and then it seemed like they had known each other for years. Since that time I have made an effort to provide a way for sponsors to meet their sponsored children in Africa. Recently I met someone who had come here as a short term Volunteer Worker in Uganda and who in the process met a child that he decided to sponsor, that gave me the idea for people to come and visit Uganda and while here meet a child that they could sponsor. If any of the above touches your heart, read on, look at the various pages and write to me regarding your child sponsorship journey to Uganda. It will be worth the trip Africa.
