Day One: Have breakfast at your hotel and get
ready for an early start to Queen Elizabeth for your
birding safari during which you will also find a lot of wildlife.
We drive through the Ugandan countryside toward Mweya, stopping at
the equator for some picture opportunities, of course there are lots
of souvenirs to be bought . Off again on our journey to Queen
Elizabeth Park...reaching Mweya Lodge still in time for lunch...even
from here you will be able to see out over the Kazinga channel and
see quite a few birds and other activity as you eat your lunch.
You will love your room and the menu at Mweya Lodge, superb
and the presentation is so nicely done. The wait staff is well
trained and able to bring you what your palate desires.
Take a dip into the pool and relax a bit until the evening
game drive, your first one at Queen Elizabeth Park. Not only
will see you be sighting many birds but lions, elephants, buffalo,
scenic wonders, savannah, lakes and hopefully as you return back to
the Lodge a great sunset. We will be taking the Kasenyi track
and then move on to the Kikorongo Lake area where you can find
Rupell's Griffon Vulture, Martial Eagle, Weavers, Common Squacco
Heron, Glossy and Sacred Ibises to name a few, many more to be
found. In the Kikorongo Swamp area is a good chance to see the
Shoebill Stork.
We return back to the Lodge for Dinner and a good night's
sleep.
Day Two: Great Breakfast and we pack a lunch
picnic and we are off to Maragambo Forest for birding. Lots of
monkeys along the trails, one might even spot a chimpanzee or
leopard.
We will also visit the famous bat cave with its python in
residence and you might see Palm Nut Vultur. There are several
walk available and depending on your stamina we can spend most of
the day here taking different walks and even if you took the same
loop over and over, each time you would spot different birds.
Three of forest trails afford prime birding seeing such rare birds
as Scaly-Breasted Illaopsis, Snowy-headed Robin-Chat and Chestnut
Wattle-Eye, Dark Capped Yellow Warbler, Fawn Breasted Waxbill, Black
Headed Batis, Brubru and Sulphur Breasted Bush Shrike and many
others. There is also an abundance of butterflies found here.
We return to the lodging and enjoy the late afternoon at Mweya
Lodge, enjoying the birds found here and maybe a dip into the pool,
a cold drink, even a nap.
Dinner at the Lodge and a nice several course dinner it is,
rest and a good night's rest.
Day Three: We are off for the Kyambura Gorge and
Kyambura Wildlife Reserve. This is your opportunity who see
Chimpanzees up close. Here they have been habituated which
simply means that they are accustomed to humans. There you can
also find Black and White Colobus, Vervet Monkeys, and Olive
Baboons. If you want to include the Chimpanzees in your
safari, let us know that you want to add it on, since there are
permits that need to be purchased. Chimpanzee tracking (trekking) is at 8
am daily.
The gorge is a forest that is surrounded by the QEP savannah
and you will find Black Bee Eaters and the Blue Breasted Kingfisher,
Black and African Black Emerald Cuckoos, Speckled Tinker bird,
green Hylia, White-spotted Fluftail , and lots of
others.
There are also crater lakes near at the Kyambura Wildlife
Reserve and a visit to Flamingo Lake, where we also will see the
little Grebe and many Ducks along the way and of course you will
countless of other birds.
We return to Mweya Peninsula in the afternoon, time permitting we
take a walk to the bird hide and spot lots of birds including
Cormorants, Goliath Herous, Sacred Ibis and fish Eagles. Back
to the Lodge for a restful evening and dinner and a good night's
sleep.
Day Four: Early morning Breakfast and the selection
is simply the best and we are off on another game drive where we
will wildlife and many birds along our 3 hour drive. A game
drive is very exciting not knowing what is around the next bed and
we get to see more savannah, water birds.
Lunch at the lodge, enjoy the food, then it is off to Kazinga
channel for a 3 hour launch trip, a multitude of birds along the
channel, including wildlife. This is always a highlight to a
Queen Elizabeth Park Safari. Most likely you have never seen such a
multitude of birds in your life. Birds such as African
Skimmer, Striated Heron, African Spoonbill, Water Thick-knee,
Three-banded Plover, Marsh, Green, Wood and Common Sandpiper,
Gray-headed Gull, Plain Martin, Lesser Swamp-Warbler and
Yellow-billed Oxpecker and many others.
Return to the lodge for dinner and a good night's rest.
Day Five: Early morning breakfast and off for
morning birding near the airstrip, home of many a bird that you
might not have seen thus far.
Then it is check-out time and move out toward Kampala with lunch
at Mbarara and a visit to the Royal Drum Makers on the way to
Kampala.

Two Day in search of the
Shoebill Stork Safari:
Introductory primer to Uganda Birding. A 2 day mini-birding safari to Entebbe and Mabamba Swamp.
Close to Kampala and yet it seems far away, the
peace of the Botanical Gardens at Entebbe with its
fabulous plants and vegetation grazed by hundreds of
different species of birds and then Mabamba swamp
with its Shoebill Stork and other water birds, float
across this ancient swamp and take in the peace
around you, the birds in the reeds and overhead and
it is a day well worth it.
Mabira Rainforest Birding
Safari:
Two days in the largest rainforest in the central area of
Uganda. Lovely forest and great forest birding.
This is the only rainforest near Kampala and
portions were to be allocated to a sugar
conglomerate but due to a wide protest both within
and outside of Uganda it has not taken place.
Just one hour from Uganda, you can stay in the
lovely Rainforest Lodge, take guided walks through
the forest and see small mammals, monkeys and lots
of birds, it is a peaceful setting and gives you an
African Rainforest close to Kampala.
Mgahinga Gorilla Park:
Birding at Mgahinga Gorilla Park in Uganda, combine with
hiking, golden monkey or Mountain Gorilla tracking (trekking).
This is one of the scenic wonder parks Uganda.
It has a gorilla group that shifts back and forth
between Uganda, Rwanda and the DRC, but there are
hikes up the volcanoes and along through bamboo
forest with lots of birds, most of them have never
been recorded because Mgahinga is sort of bypassed,
however it is simply bypassed.
Lake Mburo Birding Safari:
A great two day birding and wildlife Safari to the closest
National Park to Kampala. You can take a one day,
or two day Birding Safari to Lake Mburo and combine
it with wildlife viewing, take a boat ride on Lake
Mburo and simply enjoy the birds in the overhanging
trees, overhead or as a fish eagle dives into the
lake for tasty tilapia. Shoebill storks can
also be found here...you can stay in the up-market
comfort or budget, both choices have tented camps.
Mount Elgon Hiking and Birding
Safari:
3 Days
of Birding and Hiking around Sipi Falls in Eastern Uganda.
Hike around Sipi Falls and discover the beauty of
Eastern Uganda climbing an extinct volcano that was
higher than Kilimanjaro until the top blew off.
Hike through Bamboo Forest, Afro Montane vegetation
and find birds found nowhere else in Uganda. This
safari also spends the last day going to the source
of the Nile where you will also find some water
birds.
The
Sipi falls and cave alone are worth, but there is so

Park and Budongo Forest Birding Safari:

and most fantastic scenery. What can one say about
Murchison Falls, but that it is simply fabulous and
a great variety birds and wildlife is found there.

Magic Mile at Budongo Forest where you can always
tie in some chimpanzee tracking the in the old
growth Mahogany Forest.
Queen Elizabeth National
Park Birding Safari: Five days in the National
Park with more birds than anywhere else in Uganda, plus
great wildlife. Queen Elizabeth is the one park
with more birds than any other one in Uganda.
Pelicans, Shoebill storks, flamingoes and hundreds
can be found here, besides the fantastic wildlife
that calls QEP home. There is savannah, lakes,
including crater lakes, forest, and large lakes all
providing for different species of bird and given
you maximum variety.

in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest:
A classic combination Safari combining Gorillas and Birding.
Bwindi Forest with its streams, waterfalls, lush and
verdant vegetation provides a great habitat for a
variety of birds and mammals. Known mostly for
its mountain gorillas, but it is also a birders
paradise and the perfect place to spend 5 days the
Forest of Bwindi meaning Darkness in the local
language.
You
could easily spend a week here and even run, it is
relatively cool here, the quietness of the lodging
is noticeable and the sounds of the day and night is
awesome.
