One Day Birding Safaris around
Kampala
Birding near Kampala
Kabiza Wilderness Safaris Ltd. - Uganda Quality
Safaris without Compromise
Entebbe
Birding: Enjoy your breakfast
at your hotel in Kampala and we will be there early to take
you on a fabulous day of birding in Uganda beginning at Entebbe
Botanical Gardens.

If you
have never gone birding in Uganda, this is the perfect primer
for you. You will love the beauty of the Gardens with
trees, plants, flowers from all over Uganda, even medicinal
plants in abundance. Your guide will know both the plants
and the birds for a double treat for you.
At times
it will seem as you are in a jungle, at others walking across
manicured lawns, the Gardens are filled with variety and
speaking of variety let us look at some of the birds you will
find there such as Verreaux’s Eagle Owls, Jackson’s golden backed
weaver, Red Chested Sunbirds, Vieillot’s Black Weaver, African
Open Billed Stork, Hamerkop, Black headed Herons, Kingfishers,
long tailed cormorant and many more. Don't forget the colorful
butterflies you will find there.
We take
a lunch break along the waterfront of Lake Victoria which is
the second largest lake in the world, the largest in Africa
and even at lunch you will see more birds.
After
lunch it is off to Lutembe Beach, a short distance away for
more birding. Then back to your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala
or off for a late night flight out of Uganda. A full day
to say the least.
Mabamba
Swamp: We take an hour
ride over to Mabamba Swamps and wetlands in search of the elusive
Shoebill stork. We take some refreshments along, including
a packed lunch since we will be spending most of the day at
Mabamba. We will find birds like grey headed gull, the
elusive shoe bill stork, white winged terns, Yellow billed egret,
Madagascar bee-eater, long toed plover and hopefully many
others.
We first
take a boat out into the swamp and then walk along some paths.
It usually proves to be a most fruitful day when it comes to
birding and you will have spent two fabulous days becoming acquainted
with many of the birds of Uganda.
We take
a drive back to Kampala reaching their in the late afternoon.
Mabira
Rainforest: Leave Kampala from your Hotel and depart
for Mabira Rainforest just one hour away. Upon arrival
we check in at the Mabira Rainforest Lodge (other accommodations
such as budget can be arranged). Mabira Rainforest Lodge is
a newly constructed, eco-friendly facility that you will find
delightful.
Have a cup of coffee or soda and we are
off on our first forest walk at Mabira Rainforest. Light
clothing, comfortable light boots, a small backpack for water,
camera, binoculars would be helpful.
You
will be surprised as to what you will find so close to a city
such as Kampala and now there is nothing but tranquility as
you set out. There are 62 kilometers of trails throughout
the park giving you a delightful variety of sights to see.
A well
trained guide will be with you who will assist you by pointing
out the birds, monkeys, plants and trees that you otherwise
might miss. The morning walk will be a short introductory
walk into the forest before having lunch at the Mabira Rainforest
Lodge.
After
lunch it is off for a 3 hour walk through the forest depending
on your physical abilities and stamina. You will see many
birds, remember that a good 30% of the birds found in Uganda
are found here at Mabira Forest, also monkeys in abundance,
butterflies, and simply the mysterious forest itself.
Back
to Kampala to your Hotel for a well deserved rest.
