What will you find at Mabira Rainforest?
A tropical rainforest that is reminiscent of the West African rainforest, a forest unlike any in Kenya or Tanzania, since it is in Uganda where the West African forests meet East Africa.
You can find over 200 hundred different kinds of trees here. There are patches of grassland in the valleys also extensive papyrus swamps all of which support a lot of different kinds of birds.
Birds: There are over 300 different species found here, most of which are forest birds. Here you will often find the great blue turaco, African grey parrot, three different kinds of forest hornbills, lots of sunbirds. You can also spot the pretty tit hylia, the forest wood-hoope, African pitta, purple throated cuckoo-shrike, leaflove, Weyn's weaver and Nathan's francolin to name just a few.
Butterflies: There are 218 different kinds of butterflies found here and there colorful beauty will delight your senses.
Mammals: Twenty three different types, mostly monkeys that you will enjoy.

Mabira Rainforest 2 Day Birding Safari Visit this rainforest in the heart of Uganda and discover its treasures Birds, Birds, and more Birds Day One: Leave Kampala from your Hotel and depart for Mabira Rainforest just one hour away. Upon arrival we check in at the Mabira Rainforest Lodge (other accommodations such as budget can be arranged). Mabira Rainforest Lodge is a newly constructed, eco-friendly facility that you will find delightful.
You will be surprised as to what you will find so close to a city such as Kampala and now there is nothing but tranquility as you set out. There are 62 kilometers of trails throughout the park giving you a delightful variety of sights to see. A well trained guide will be with you who will assist you by pointing out the birds, monkeys, plants and trees that you otherwise might miss. The morning walk will be a short introductory walk into the forest before having lunch at the Mabira Rainforest Lodge. After lunch and maybe a dip into the pool it is off for a 3 hour walk through the forest depending on your physical abilities and stamina. You will see many birds, remember that a good 30% of the birds found in Uganda are found here at Mabira Forest, also monkeys in abundance, butterflies, and simply the mysterious forest itself. Dinner at Mabira Rainforest Lodge where they delight in pleasing their guests and maybe a drink outside on the patio listening to the forest. As you go to sleep that night you will here sounds such as you have never heard before, creating a symphony only heard in the rainforest as you go to sleep. Day Two: Breakfast, and breakfast it is, after you go off on another nature walk with your guide who will show you Mabira at its best. Keep the camera handy as you venture out on the trails. Lunch at the lodge as you reflect on what you have seen as you enjoy your food. To top things off, another afternoon walk with lots of bird sightings, the monkey along the way, butterflies, plants and trees. Then it is off to Kampala for your return trip to the Hotel of your choice.

Have
a cup of coffee or soda and we are off on our first forest walk
at Mabira Rainforest. Light clothing, comfortable light
boots, a small backpack for water, camera, binoculars would
be helpful.
