Kabwoya Wilderness Reserve Information

Come down on the Bunyororo Escarpment and the sight that awaits you is a vast savannah plainnestled next to Lake Albert.  The Blue Mountains of the Congo in the distance, to the south the majestic Mountains of the Moon.  The climb down is slow, winding curves, a steep road to say the least, but all of it is worth it as you reach the vast plain below.  Look back and you are amazed that you just came down on the route you did.

Kabwoya has been a Wilderness Reserve since 2002.  It took a giant effort to remove the cattle and pastoralists and allow wildlife to slowly return.  Though there is not an abundance of wildlife, there is the simple beauty of the place that makes it so attractive.

As you drive to the only lodge in the Reserve you will be greeted by Buffaloes, Uganda Kob, Duikers, Bushbuck, warthogs.

Along the riverine forests that grace the Hoywa and Wambabya Rivers you will find Chimpanzees, Baboons, Black and White Colobus Monkeys.  Birdlife is in abundance here with over 400 species found.

Here you can take guided and self guided nature walks, explore the various waterfalls, go fossil hunting, horseback riding, game drives, visit to a Fishing Village on Lake Albert and stay at the Lake Albert Lodge perched on cliffs above Lake Albert.  One unique feature is the Bush Dinner in the African Wild.

Located half way between Murchison Falls National Park and Kibale Rainforest Jungle, it is a perfect stopover for those traveling that route.
