Boomu Women's Group - Coming together to assist their families and community

40 women plus 5 men changing the lives of the community in which they live

Village Walk - Story Teller, Blacksmith, Operation of a Loom to make Bed covers, basket weaving and more.

Boomu's Women's Group

Need can drive some people to despair - other such as the Boomu Women's Group it drives them to change.  In 1999 this group formed because of deep need in their community and abject poverty.

Located on a major tourism route they decided to to get a portion of those visitors driving by.  Years later today - there is a craft's shop, there are women making baskets and things, making an income for their families and together (Boomu) they have pulled together in the spirit of the Swahili word "Harambee" which in essence means the same as Boomu - Pulling Together.

Today there are four African Style Bandas ( cabins or cottages) for visitors to stay in, the gardens are well tended, and visitors who stay overnight get assist in the preparation of the food and even go into the garden to get that evening's dinner.

Women are involved in the making of crafts and in turn it helps them to pay school fees for their children.  All in all a very noble project that benefits the local community in many ways.

A Village Walk is offered for you to see what life is like in a village without electricity like many villages in Uganda. This is a two hour walk more or less and you meet some of the women, people who live in the village, the blacksmith, see the gardens, the craft shop and certainly you can buy some of the baskets.  Your fee will again help the Boomu Women's Group to further pull together.

If you are going to Murchison Falls National Park or Budongo Forest which is part of Murchison Falls - this village walk can easily be included in your itinerary - just let us know.  Besides the small participants cost - leave a blessing - a tip.
