Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Uganda
Visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary - Home of Baby Obama and now Baby Bella - The first baby Rhino born in Uganda in 27 years.
Rhino Baby Obama was born to a Kenyan Father and an American mother. Bella is also a new addition born in the first week of October.
Uganda was home of thousands of Rhinos some years back. The war
years along with poaching destroyed most Rhinos in
Uganda. Rhinos
are hunted for their horns. The horns were made into handles for
daggers and swords in places such as Yemen, a practice that is now appeared to
have been stopped.
The biggest problem for the safety and well being of Rhinos- Comes from China where there is the still the idea that medicinal value is derived from the Rhino horn, which is totally wrong, there is no medicinal value in the horn of Rhinos except for the Rhino remaining alive.
The last Rhino was shot in 1982 in during Uganda's turbulent times and it was in Murchison Falls. Today Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary provides a large sanctuary for the purpose of rebuilding the Rhino population of Uganda.
Your visit to the Sanctuary contributes to that effort and you are guided on foot to where the Rhinos are and get to take some great photos of the Rhinos, including the toddlers up closer.
Ziwa is a most rewarding experience allowing you to see them up close and in this manner contribute to the future of Rhinos in Uganda.
