Travellers Rest Hotel (Moderate) $$:
What can one say, but a place of History...formerly owned by
Walter Baumgärtel,
the father of Mountain Gorilla Tracking for Tourists, a place that Dian Fossey
used to call it her second home, that George Schaller used to stay
at. In those days it was a bit rougher, now it is self-contained
and running water, comfortable place, a big fireplace in the
lounge area, a comfortable place, close to Mgahinga Gorilla
National Park, close to Lake Mutanda and within reasonable reach
of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
During the 1960's
The Travellers Rest Hotel became a base of
operations that was used by George Schaller, Bernhard Grzimek, Raymond Dart and
Dian Fossey, and many others.
Travellers Rest
represents a good value, good food, and a central location for various
activities such as Golden Monkey Tracking, Volcano Climbs, Gorilla Tracking and
the Batwa Trail. There are also various boating activities that you can do
at Lake Mutanda.
It is owned by Nature
Lodges-who do a most wonderful job in other locations such as Bush Lodge, Kibale
Forest Camp, Airport Guesthouse.
From the courtyard -
you have a beautiful view of the Volcanoes-and you walk around town and twice a
week there is the market - which is a wonderful experience
You
are in town and it is about the best place to eat there.
Travellers Rest is a good value and comfortable. Enjoy. |
