Ruboni
Village Walk
Meet the
keepers of the Mountains of the Moon
Quality Safaris in
Uganda at an affordable price - Luxury - Moderate - Budget -
without compromise in quality.
Ruboni, is a small village of 2000
people in the foothills of the Mountains of the Moon - The Rwenzori Mountains.
They belong to the Bakonzo People who are a part of the Rwenzururu Kingdom.
They
are a tough and determined people, their lives shaped by the rugged mountains
that surround them.
Ruboni Village is a community project
where you take foothill guided hikes, and of course meet the local
people and one of the best ways is via the Village Walk.
The setting itself is most beautiful and
breathtaking as you begin your guided walk with an English speaking guide and
your contribution to this walk assists the local community to better their lives
and most of all the lives of their children through education, something that is
very important to the Bakonzo people - who are a very focused and purposed
people.
The Bakonzo are Bantu and can be found
both in the Democratic Republic of Congo and here in Uganda. They have a rich
culture which especially in this community is tied together with the Mountains
of which they are the keepers. The Bakonzo - do not just look at today but
at tomorrow and one of the projects is rebuilding the local forest through a
tree planting program in which they grow trees from sees - a most interesting
part of our visit.
There is the women's craft center where
you can see local baskets made and other crafts - amazing how the women put it
together.
A visit to the gardens - as local little
farms are called - the tending of livestock and gardens - the harvesting of
fresh produce and fruit.
A visit with the local storyteller who
keeps the history of his people alive through story telling, a lovely time.
A time with the local traditional
healer-but such a one in this culture is also seeing into the world of the
spirits - you will be amazed as to what you will find.
Food Preparation with ingredients from
the gardens-taste some of the local food
At the end of walk- a celebration of
Bakonzo Dance and Music.
