Queen Elizabeth National Park

Most visitors include Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda in their Safari Itinerary as they visit Uganda.  It is very diverse in nature.  Located near the border with the Democratic Republic of  Congo border, takes in two large lakes which are Lake Edward and Lake George connected by the Kazinga Channel teaming with wildlife.  Most people stay at the Mweya Peninsula at a Hostel there or at Mweya Lodge.  There are forests, ten crater lakes,95 kinds of mammals 610 species of Birds, reptiles, monkeys, including a forest with chimpanzees and of course the bat cave.    You can explore a fishing village, Traditional Salt harvesting, view the tree climbing lions of Ishasha all in the shadows of the Rwenzori mountains which are  in the distance.

Things to explore and find in Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda:

Wildlife Game Drives:  Of course there are incredible game drives allowing you to seek out the many kinds of mammals, birds and reptiles you might find along the way.  These 3 hour game drives are most rewarding and provide excellent opportunities to take some fabulous pictures near the main area around Mweya.  You will take in some crater lakes and see the animals that come to the waters to still their thirst.

Kazinga Channel:  Take a three hour boat launch trip up and down Kazinga channel and view the hippos, the birds along the water, the lions, leopards, raptor birds, fishing boats, elephants and more.  This is a highlight to any Safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda.  The picture taking opportunities are simply fabulous.

Crater Lakes:   Some of which are located near Mweya and you will simply love them since they provide ample opportunity to take pictures of many animals who come here to water and enjoy the crater lakes.  Often you can look down from above  and the lakes alone are awesome in nature and lovely to behold.

Tracking (trekking) Chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge:  Enjoy a morning walk in this lovely forest surrounded by savannah plains.  Here you will find Chimpanzees, but also various kinds of monkey such as baboons, colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys and other mammals and birds.  This is not usually included in a normal 3 day Queen Elizabeth Park Safari but can easily be added and sometimes people stay 3 nights and add it.

Maragambo Forest Walks:  Here one of the main attractions is the enormous bat cave where you are often greeted by a rock python that is in residence there.  Bird watchers will love what they will find here in this forest and many a guest has told me that they loved the Bat Cave and had never seen anything such as it.

Ishasha Plains:  One can easily spend a night here at a luxury tented camp or a budget facility and here you will find the tree climbing lions, lots of birds, many mammals and less visited area than Mweya.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is strategically located in the  West of Uganda where most of the National Parks are located such as Bwindi, Semliki, Rwenzori Mountains, Mgahinga, Kibale Forest, and Lake Mburo.  It is the most popular of National Parks due to its strategic location.  It also hosts the most birds of any park in Uganda.  Kazinga Channel has more hippos concentrated there than any other location in Africa.  It is not to be missed and waiting for you to explore it.  Look at the pictures and the more in depth look at Queen Elizabeth Park.  By the way, Queen Elizabeth has stayed here at Mweya Lodge.
