A 3 Day  Uganda Safari to the largest Wildlife Conservation Area in Uganda:

MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK WILDLIFE SAFARI -:

A magnificent natural experience - A 3 day Safari

Murchison Falls National Park is situated 305 km from Kampala in the west of Uganda. It is about 5.5 hours from Kampala.  Normally we will stop in Masindi for a bite to eat before heading onward to the largest National Park in Uganda.

As you reach the park you can branch off and see the top of the falls.  There the  Nile is 50 meters wide on top but then literally shoots through a 7 meter wide gorge plunging downward for 45 meters.  Below the river is filled with froth from the churning waters.  It is a sight to behold that is most breathtaking.  The sounds are unbelievable, for raw power there is no comparison.

As the river quiets and slowly moves on its journey you will be able to see from your boat an abundance of hippos and crocodiles on the bank.  Mixed with an occasional buffalo or elephant.  Toward the late afternoon you might see a whole herd of Elephants.  The safari  boat trip lasts three hours and a Uganda Wildlife Authority guide will be on board to tell what each animal is, they seem to even know every plant.  They can tell what kind of monkey is bouncing through the trees and why this water buffalo is alone.  What the name of a bird is in the distance, it is quite informative.

Murchison Falls National Park is separated  by the Nile River and you have to take a ferry across to get to Paara Lodge where a comfortable room awaits looking all the while as a page out of Hemingway's novels.  The vegetation ranges from thick forest to vast savannah plains where lions move through the grass and antelopes dart around. Giraffes move quietly along the trees and often an Elephant can very up close.  Besides Uganda is home to hundreds of different birds and the rare Shoebill Stork can be found here. (There are a thousand species of birds in Uganda)

Murchison Falls National Park 3 Day Wildlife Safari:

Day 1 - The Murchison Falls Park  Uganda Safari begins:  Early morning (5:30am) pick up from either one of our guesthouses, of which there are four or from a local hotel in Kampala. We will use different transport means depending on the size of your group.  The drive will be interesting to you as most have not been in Uganda before.  You will drive through Luwero which was referred to as the death triangle during the last war ending in 1986.

Along the way you will notice Uganda's answer to fast food as you see people selling chicken kabobs to anyone who stops, down the road is the maize group and a bit longer drive we come where they sell freshly prepared cassava, all ready to go.  Lunch in Masindi at the Masindi Hotel

Paara Lodge at Murchison Falls National Park in UgandaWe drive toward Masindi and then on an African red clay road toward the Park where our first destination is the top of Murchison Falls. A most awesome sight, here amidst the roar of the River you can sit on some rocks and enjoy the sounds and the spray.  Afterwards we will head down river to the ferry where we cross and register at Paara Lodge.  If you are taking the low budget safari stays at Red Chillis Camp which is on the other side of the Nile

At 5 pm we will take our first game drive through the park.  You will see lots of animals as the African evening approaches and the animals move to watering holes, grazing and preparing for the night.  A Uganda wildlife authority guide will be with us to ensure our wellbeing and also to show us where a Lion is moving through the grass.

That evening you will sit on the terrace of Paara Lodge and enjoy a lovely five course meal as the stillness of the wilderness is all around.  The food is very good and because Ugandans are some of the friendliest people in Africa, the hospitality is great.  Below you is the Nile and you will hear the hippos echoing through the African night, amazing.  If  you are staying at Red Chillis you will sit on the other side of river, enjoying a lovely view and a fantastic sunset.

Day 2 -Murchison Falls National Park Safari:  After an early morning breakfast, embark on a morning game drive on the northern bank of the river Nile. Escorted by a game ranger, you may opt for a game walk while trailing animals and studying animal spoors. Game in this area include Giraffe, Elephant, Lion, Uganda Kob, Oribi and a variety of savannah and woodland  birds.

Come back to the lodge and take a swim in the pool, have a delightful lunch and at 2pm it is off on a 3 hour river cruise on the historic Nile. This is a paradise for the Hippos and Crocodiles.

The boat takes you to the bottom of the falls. The wildlife action on the shore, the sights are just fantastic, this is one of the best ways to do game drive, on a boat.  Preferably  on the larger one where you can go on the upper deck and take fantastic pictures.

Dinner is around 7pm and again very leisurely pace and relaxing as you sit overlooking the Nile from above.

Day 3 - Back to Kampala: Morning Breakfast and then off across the Nile and toward the area of the Budongo Forest for Chimpanzee Tracking and Forest Walk.  You will see many forest birds and walk in a mature Forest. Have a Picnic Lunch and leave for Kampala  arriving around dinnertime.
