Meet the Mubare Gorilla Family GroupLocated in the Buhoma Area of Bwindi Impenetrable ForestThe oldest habituated Gorilla Family in Uganda -Mubare (also referred to as Mubale or M Group)Uganda Gorilla Permit Price to be slashed Twice a Year.
The Mubare Mountain Gorilla Group was the first to be habituated in Uganda. In 1991 Uganda Wildlife Authority began the process of habituation - simply meaning that they are used to humans coming into contact. This process takes about two years and in 1993 they began to receive their first tourist visitors. They are named after the Mubare Hills where they were first located. There were 18 gorillas in the Mubare family but due to some moving to other groups - loss of lives in fights and a baby dying in 2009 the number in the group presently is 5. The dominant silverback of the family is Ruhondeza - as he ages he has become smaller in size and so has his group. As the ruler of the family - he has never groomed a successor - he in fact has jealously guarded - like a political strongman his rule of the group. Uganda Wildlife Authority trackers suspect that he eliminates potential usurpers of his dominion. A very enjoyable Group to visit in the Buhoma Area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Mubare Family Members:
Present State of Mubare Group: The group is in good health presently including Kashundwe the baby of the group. They are found in the Buhoma area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Gorilla Groups Habituated for Gorilla Tracking in Uganda
