Mount Elgon Hiking and Birding Safari in Uganda-East Africa 3 Days or more of Hiking and Birding Safari in Mount Elgon National Park in Uganda Mount Elgon is the eight highest Mountain in Africa. An extinct Volcano that towers over the African plains and valleys, straddling the Ugandan-Kenyan border. The foothills provide the perfect place for tea and coffee plantations, in fact some of the finest coffee is grown in the Mount Elgon area, some of which you can taste at Lacam Lodge or Sipi Falls Lodge.
This is the perfect place for some who want to take a short hike around Sipi Falls or those who want ascend to the peaks of the mountains. There is Afro-Montane vegetation, Bamboo Forests, there Bi, waterfalls, caves to explore and you will come across Blue Monkeys, Black and White Colobus. In some areas of the mountain you will find a small herd of Elephants, De Brazza's Monkey, Leopards, Bushpig, Sitatunga Antelope and other antelopes as the common Duiker. Birds such as Jackson Francoline, Moorland Francoline, Mustached Green Tinkerbird, Black Collared Apalis, Bronze-Naped Pigeon, Hartlaub's Turaco, Tacazze Sunbird, Lammergeyer can be spotted here.
