Day Birding
Safari to Lake Mburo National Park in Uganda Lake Mburo National Park with its five lakes, acacia trees, wildlife and 313 species of birds Kabiza Wilderness Safaris The Best Safaris at Lowest Price without Compromise Day One: Leave your Hotel in Kampala after breakfast (7:30) and we drive off to Lake Mburo. We arrive at Lake Mburo and check in to the Lodging (your choice of up-market such Mhingo Lodge just outside of the Park, Mantana tented camp, or Rwonyo Camping Site which is budget.
After a delightful lunch
we are off for a boat ride around the edge of
the lake discovering the The boat will move slowly around the lake giving you ample time to find various water birds, the Shoebill amongst them, also the African Fish Eagle, Marabou Stork, Pied Kingfisher, different kinds of Egrets and Herons. Besides you will see Hippos, Crocodiles, Buffaloes coming to water, waterbuck and Bushbuck. If you look into the thickets surrounding the lake you will find other birds such as Ross's Turaco and Narina Trogon. The African Finfoot can also be found here. You will have a delightful afternoon of discovery. Back to the lodge for dinner, reflection and rest. No matter where you are staying you will hear the sounds of the African night in the wilderness as you go to sleep. Day Two: Morning comes early this day, have a cup of coffee or tea and off we go on our Birding walk through the savannah as the sun rises. 6:30 in the morning is light and we might still see some nocturnal animals who have not turned in for the day. The scenery will be just wonderful for you and the birds will be in abundance, most likely we will see some mammals along the way. Hopefully we will spot some Crested Francolin, Emerald-spotted Wood dove, Brown Parrot, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Blue-naped Mouse bird, Lilac-breasted Roller, Green Wood-Hoopoe, Common Scimitar Bill, African Grey Hornbill, Spot-Flanked Barbet, Nubian Woodpecker, Trilling Cisticola, Yellow-Breasted Apalis and hopefully many more. Then it is off for breakfast and just a relaxing time. You can take a walk near your lodging, take a dip into the pool or just sit there looking out in the vastness of Lake Mburo Park. In the afternoon we will go on Safari looking for wildlife and at the same time be cognizant of any birds we might encounter. This way you have a blend between an African wilderness safari and African Birding. Lake Mburo has an abundance of Zebras, one of the only two National Parks in Uganda to do so. We return to the lodging for dinner and rest and chats with other guests at the facility. Day 3: It is Breakfast time and one more Birding walk and hopefully by then we have seen more birds than you imagined. We return for the lodge, and head for Kampala with lunch along the way at Mbarara. We stop at the equator for picture taking and at the famous Baganda Drum Makers before we reach Kampala for dinner time.
