Habinyanja Gorilla Family Group was habituated beginning in 1997 and opened for visitors in 1999 in the Buhoma area for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. When the Habinyanja group was opened for visitation it was a rather large group, however itter split up and some gorillas left and created the present Rushegura group.

The Habinyanja group was originally was led by a silverback named Rwansigazi. Rwansigazi was chased away by the silverback Makara who is the current leader of the group.

Habinyanja group has been ranging from Kahororo, Nyamishamba through the forest via Rushegura to the Rubona side of the park. The group at times goes out of the park near the areas of Kahororo. It has the widest home range of habituated groups-meaning that the tracking experience can be a long day.  The Habinyanja group often interacts with both Rushegura and Mubale groups.
