Flying to Uganda Africa for your Volunteer Trip or Short Term Mission Trip

Flying to Uganda - East Africa for Volunteer Work Team or Short Term Mission Trip

Getting to Entebbe Uganda - Uganda's Gateway - The beginning of your Volunteer Work Team Trip in Uganda

Getting to Uganda is becoming easier each year, more and more airlines are flying into Entebbe International Airport and since there are now more international airlines, the rates have become quite competitive and since you are coming here as a team and for what would be referred to as Humanitarian purpose you might qualify for some special considerations such as extra luggage specifically for the purpose of fulfilling your purpose in Uganda.  I have often loaded things on the bus for teams that normal tourists do not bring here such as solar panels, medicine boxes, books for a library, teaching material  and much more.

If you are coming from Europe you can fly out of London directly to Entebbe via British Airways.  From London you can also fly Air Emirates to Dubai and then on to Entebbe, or you fly via KLM to Amsterdam and then  to Entebbe, or Ethiopian Airlines to Addis Ababa and then on to Entebbe.

From the European Continent you can fly directly to Entebbe using Brussels Airlines to Entebbe, Uganda from Brussels and from Amsterdam there is KLM that has several weekly flights to and from Entebbe, Uganda.

From North America, you can fly British Airways to London and then on to Entebbe, Uganda.  You can also take Northwest Airlines to Amsterdam and then fly KLM which is in partnership with Northwest Airlines and arrive here in Uganda at Entebbe Airport.

There are many ways for a Uganda Volunteer Work Team or Short Term Mission Team can come to Uganda and we can possibly arrange for you the lowest price for your team or for you as an individual.

The airfare cost is often the greatest expense that you have to incur when coming to Uganda for your 2 week volunteer work trip.  Yet I have never had someone voice their regret at the end of their trip here, no it is the opposite, volunteer workers make plans to return before they every leave Uganda.

Entebbe Airport Arrivals and Departures for Teams:

Arrival at Entebbe International Airport:  A very nice and functional airport it is.  You will land on the shores of Lake Victoria and you will have to walk down the steps to the tarmac in order to enter the airport.  Assistance from a friendly staff is available if needed.  Move as a team and as you enter the

immigration arrival lounge have the team leader be the first one to approach the immigration desk and tell the immigration official that you are here as a team, this often expedites the process. Have your Ugandan Entrance application filled out and in hand along with 50 USD with passport and World Health Certificate certifying that you have had your Yellow Fever Inoculation.  The lines may seem long but it will move quicker than what you may think.  Those members who have cleared immigration can proceed to the baggage claim section where they can begin to pull luggage off of carousel.  It is often best to use the same kind of sticker or tag on each piece of luggage for easy identification.  In the baggage claim area you may see Ugandan staff pulling suitcases off, they are merely making room on luggage carousel, so look at the suitcases that have been already pulled.  Account for all luggage before you proceed. Free luggage carts are available in the baggage claim area that you can take out to the parking lot or curb.

Customs is next and  it is best to go through the green channel unless you have something to declare. Have any documentation ready that you may need for the item you are bringing to Uganda.

Once out in the terminal we will be meeting you with our bus driver and other staff, holding sign in hand with your teams name on it.  We will proceed to the vehicle, load up and move to your Guest House accommodation.

Departure from Entebbe:  International Flights require that you are there three hours before departure:  As you enter the airport, your luggage is scanned before check-in.  Since you are coming as a team have the team leader approach the counter first. Overweight luggage is charged extra without mercy (personal experience). In the case of KLM, the counter closes one hour prior to departure.  KLM has the best customer service (my opinion), they are constantly making sure everything is working out for you, initially they had a rough start and their customer service was atrocious and condescending, and I had to pay 400 dollars extra for overweight luggage and the treatment was terrible by some petty official of the airline who enjoyed having power.  British Airways has always been top-notch, while Brussels Airlines has some catching up to do according to people that have used them.

Next is immigration and the exit forms that you have to fill out and soon you will be in the departure lounge with duty-free shops and a nice restaurant where you can get something to eat and or other refreshment.

Lastly you check in your hand luggage for scanning and your passport and ticket and soon you will be flying off back home.

Hopefully you will return soon to Uganda. Once it gets into you and you will be back soon.
