Robinah Lubwama
Compassion made real
They call her Mummy; thousands of Kampala’s children
have adopted her as their mother. Those who have been orphaned by the many
conflicts that have visited the pearl of Africa, others whose parents have
been taken by grim reaper of Africa, AIDS. All
however have taken to Mummy Robinah as she has taken them under her wings
and through her organization given meaningful help.
Most of the time, when we meet a saint this side of
heaven we do not realize that they are such, but the result is that we are
usually impacted and changed by the way that they live out their lives.
Robinah is such a person, all 5 foot of her, a bundle of compassionate
energy that is out to change the orphaned and destitute world of Kampala,
Uganda.
I sat with Mummy Robinah in the lobby of Sheraton Hotel
in Kampala having coffee and tea as a woman in her early thirties approached
and in the fashion of respect dropped to her knees and greeted Robinah
thanking her for something she had done for a member of her family. This
took me aback but then I had to put into the context of the Baganda culture.
(kneeling is a sign of respect in Uganda and is practiced by both sexes
especially when they are children as a sign of respect, it is also practiced
amongst women as a sign of respect and is in no way demeaning in that
culture)
No matter where Robinah
goes there she is greeted with
respect for the work she has done. Here in Africa, where things come down
to survival, having enough food for the next day, where those without help
just fade away and die, here this woman called Robinah through her
compassionate actions has made the difference in lives of thousands of
children who through the circumstances of life had been tossed away like
used Kleenex, but she saw things that others missed, her eyes saw things as
they could be and in loving
compassion breathed life back into hundreds who are today enjoying fruitful
lives. They are now doctors, lawyers, engineers, carpenters, merchants,
bankers, teachers and preachers, wives, fathers, mothers all as are result
of one woman ( and many oth
ers who have joined her) who took them in and
gave them a future and a hope.
Besides being a person of compassion and love, she is
an entrepreneur of the first order. Money does not come easy to a project
in Uganda that most of the world knows little about. She has started a
catering service that services offices with a lunch that is run by some of
the former children under her care, there is a farm on outskirts of Kampala,
a student apartment building near the major university and guesthouse where
people can stay at a reasonable fee, all of the money going back into the
lives of Uganda’s children.
Robinah visited me along with her husband and two of
her children about a year ago and it was a delight to see her once again and
hear firsthand how things were progressing in Uganda. It was a short visit,
but once again her humility, compassion, graceful manner all came through,
reminding me that Robinah truly was a modern day, African, Mother Theresa
that thousands of children simply call mummy…jon

If you want to become a change agent in Kampala Uganda,
you can do so by becoming personally involved in the lives of children that
have been dealt some heavy blows by life but due to your intervention can
have a new day ahead of them. (One school especially, Alpha and Omega could
use some of your help, it is a relative new school that needs some extra
input) You can personally be involved by going to Africa and teaching,
building, medical work or giving from a distance. Feel free to contact
Robinah Lubwama about how you want
to be a change agent in Africa.

How Can I Help?
What Can I do to help a Child in Africa?
Since the early
nineties I have been involved with caring for children.
Last year we formed Ambassadors of Hope International, a registered
non-profit organization in the USA .dedicated to working with the
children of Uganda and East Africa, children who are born into slums and have little to hope
for unless someone cares and makes a difference in their lives
by coming and giving their time, by someone sponsoring a child so
that they can get an ongoing education. Many people give a donation
that pooled with others translates into help for a child, a hope
filled future.
If you are
interested in helping in any way, please contact me by email at
jonblanc@kabiza.com or you can send a donation by
check to:
Ambassadors
of Hope International - PO Box 2974, Blaine WA 98231
You will receive a tax receipt
if you are in the USA and a detailed account of what will happen
with your donation. Less than 10% if any, will be used to
handle your gift. In the USA everyone is a volunteer and there are no
employees. The money is sent to Alpha and Omega Ministries
where it is administered by qualified staff-members, some of whom
have worked with Ugandan children for over 20 years.
If you desire to
sponsor a child with a monthly donation, it is $25 per month or $300
per year in one donation. You will receive a picture and background
of a child, 4 letters a year and reports from the teachers on the
progress of the child. You can also visit your sponsored child in
Uganda and actually work at the school where your child attends. We
will send you photographs of your child in class, eating lunch,
playing. Thank you for caring...jon
We do have a special gift for you
for any donation over 25 dollars, or the sponsorship of a child.
We have various beautiful 20" by 30" hand made in Uganda Batiks that we will send to you
with the receipt for your donation. You can pick out your
batik today and email me your choice along with your planned
donation, name and address.
Take a look at the Batiks. |
