Kabiza: People always wonder what Kabiza stands for. The actual words is Kabissa in Kiswahili and means complete. I am far from complete, but that is the journey I am heading in. When I came back from Africa I wanted to use Kabissa but the name was taken, so I took Kabiza and it stuck and that is why today there is Out of Africa - Too at http://kabiza.com the address of this website. I am kind of glad that I have my own site, initially I was on AOL and put together a rudimentary site and then switched to Talk City. In both cases you had ads and pop-up windows and I wanted to get rid of them, besides the mail at MSN did not always come home to me. The is why we have Kabiza. It is also a town in Rwanda that was a place of atrocities during the genocide of 1994 in that country.
Jon Blanc:
Born in Germany at the end of World War II during a
bombing raid in a small town (Timmendorfer Strand) nestled on the
Baltic
Sea. That bombing raid seems to have stuck with me
since my life has never been dull since then. I have always seen life as a journey. My own version of "A Road less traveled." From "Sales and Marketing, into public speaking for many years, and then being director of Field Operation for a multi-national humanitarian NGO in various parts of Africa. At times we worked with and under the auspices of the UN with traumatized children in Rwanda and Sudan, orphans in Uganda and Kenya and more. Later on there was my running a lovely Bed and Breakfast in the Northwest of the USA and now there is this back to my first love, Africa. I am once again involved in being someone who can simply make a difference in the lives of people having started a non-profit organization that works with kids born into slums. People always ask me how one can be of help to the children of Africa...one way is to go and see, the other is to support a child in Africa that helps to educate them out of poverty into a life where there is a sense of a meaningful life... I also help with Businesses in Uganda that in turn take some of the profits and put them into the education of children who without that help would waste away in some of slums of Kampala. Life is truly a journey and at this point of that journey I am no longer looking for a destination, but enjoying the journey in which there are still many goals and dreams to fulfill. I am in touch with my spiritual side and treasure the things I have found. I enjoy writing short stories about my African experiences - things that touch the soul, reading books, walking on the beach by my home, stimulating music and conversation, hiking in the mountains, traveling, meditation, enjoying the people around me, acts of random kindness, enjoying life as it comes, taking each day as a gift and living in it as there were no tomorrow. English is my second language, and at times I find it a bit difficult expressing myself in that language. I hope you can make sense out the things you will find in my pages and that it brings you a bit of joy. My years in
Africa changed my life as I had known it. It was a time of reflection, of
finding oneself. but I could best call it a "coming home." A time of
finding treasures in the dark night of the soul. A time of realization to
live this life I now have with a sense of purpose, one moment, one day at
a time. I love to read, about three books a week, write, working on website, will even do one for you at the right price, fix computer operation systems, cooking a meal , I collect MP3 Files, a legitimate download subscription service with lots of African music. Periodically I speak to groups about Africa, African culture and ways. Something that I love to do. I also have an extensive library of books about Africa, from historical ones to novels written by Africans with an emphasis on East Africa. So much for now...I hope you enjoy the site....jon If you like to find out more about East Africa, I am available when I am in the USA to come and speak to your group about life in Africa, growing up in Africa, Education in Africa, Travel in Africa, Taking a Safari in Uganda or East Africa and much more...email me...jon
Be sure to add it to your favorite list, and how about signing the guest book or dropping a note? Here are some pictures of my family taken not too long ago and you can also look at my page decorating you home African Style.
