Kabiza: People always wonder what Kabiza stands for. The actual words is Kabissa in Kiswahili and means complete. I am far from complete, but that is the journey I am heading in. When I came back from Africa I wanted to use Kabissa but the name was taken, so I took Kabiza and it stuck and that is why today there is Out of Africa - Too at http://kabiza.com the address of this website. The "Out of Africa-Too" website has been in existence since 1996 in one form or another. There are well over 500 pages on the site...at times it becomes a chore since uploading it in Uganda can be a day long experience due low bandwidth.
Jon Blanc:
Born in Germany at the end of World War II during
a bombing raid in a small town (Timmendorfer Strand) nestled on the Baltic
Sea. That bombing raid seems to have stuck with me since my l I have always seen life as a journey. My own version of "A Road less traveled." From "Sales and Marketing, into public speaking for many years, and then being director of Field Operation for a multi-national humanitarian NGO in various parts of Africa. At times we worked with and under the auspices of the UN with traumatized children in Rwanda and Sudan, orphans in Uganda and Kenya and more. Later on there was my running a lovely Bed and Breakfast in the Northwest of the USA and then back to my first love, Africa. I am once again involved in being someone who can simply make a difference in the lives of people having started a non-profit organization that works with kids born into slums. People always ask me how one can be of help to the children of Africa...one way is to go and see, the other is to support a child in Africa that helps to educate them out of poverty into a life where there is a sense of a meaningful life... I also help with Businesses in Uganda that in turn take some of the profits and put them into the education of children who without that help would waste away in some of slums of Kampala which is a large part of this website and then there is of course the promotion of Africa in general, including Travel to Africa, Uganda in particular such as a Ugandan Tour and Travel Company -Kabiza Wilderness Safaris with Kabiza Wilderness Safaris. I do cross-cultural work in that I assist NGO's and Businesses new to Uganda in how to hire staff, expectation of Ugandan staff and cultural differences between Westerners and Ugandans. I actually love telling people about Uganda and often spend hours writing comments on blogs that disseminate erroneous information about Uganda in regards to the safety of the country and the conflict with the LRA...when Uganda is rebuilding, it seems that many in the world believe that hell is breaking loose on a daily basis. (So much information regarding Uganda is simply erroneous, in the press and in blogs, especially the smaller newspapers often portray Uganda as being aflame, as the conflict ongoing when Uganda has enjoyed a peace for over two years and hopefully a final peace agreement will soon be signed with the LRA or that Joseph Kony will be eliminated.) I enjoy writing short stories about my African experiences - things that touch the soul, reading books, walking on the beach by my home, stimulating music and conversation, hiking in the mountains, traveling, meditation, enjoying the people around me here in Uganda. English is my second language, and at times I find it a bit difficult expressing myself in that language. I hope you can make sense out the things you will find in my pages and that it brings you a bit of joy. My years in Africa changed my life as I had known it. You either love Africa or you hate it, I happen to love Africa, Uganda in particular. I love telling people about Africa, particularly East and Central Africa. There is the African Insights blog on this site with a response section, it is a transition from my once a month Newsletter to writing more frequently about some of the things happening in Uganda. I also lead safaris with Kabiza Wilderness Safaris where you receive special insight into Uganda from a Muzungu's perspective. From a day trip to an extended safari, I am available to give you insights into Uganda...for five years I assisted a relative new Safari company but sadly had to part ways due to differences of customer service which is something that always has been foremost on my mind. Thus Kabiza Wilderness Safari, another attempt in building a Ugandan company and mentoring a young man in the principles of business, tourism, marketing and customer service, which will allow this young man a chance to provide a better life for his family and employ many others in the safari and tourism business. So much for now...I hope you enjoy the site....jon If you like to find out more about East Africa, I am available when I am in the USA or Europe to come and speak to your group about life in Africa, growing up in Africa, Education in Africa, Travel in Africa, Taking a Safari in Uganda or East Africa and much more- I also provide cross-cultural training for westerners as they move to Uganda...email me...jon Here are some pictures of my family
You can follow some daily updates from Uganda on Facebook. Inside the great mystery that is, If you've opened your loving to God's love, you're helping people you don't know and have never seen. Rumi
